Ingredients

  • 4 medium-sized Yams (or sweet potatoes)
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup Brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup Kahlua liqueur
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 cup Pecans (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Step 2

Scrub the yams clean and pierce each one several times with a fork. Place them on a baking sheet lined with foil or parchment paper.

Step 3

Roast the yams in the oven for 40–50 minutes or until they are fork-tender. The exact time will depend on their size.

Step 4

Once the yams are cooked, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool slightly. Reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) if serving immediately.

Step 5

Peel the yams and place the flesh in a large mixing bowl. Mash them with a potato masher or fork until smooth.

Step 6

In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the brown sugar, Kahlua, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt. Cook until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is slightly thickened, about 2–3 minutes.

Step 7

Pour the butter and Kahlua mixture into the mashed yams. Add the heavy cream and vanilla extract, and mix until the ingredients are fully combined and the texture is smooth.

Step 8

Transfer the yam mixture to a greased baking dish. If desired, sprinkle pecans over the top for added texture and flavor.

Step 9

Bake in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10–15 minutes or until warmed through.

Step 10

Serve the Kahlua Yams hot as a luxurious side dish, and enjoy the rich flavors!
