Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup additional ketchup (for topping)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, and milk. Let the mixture sit for 2–3 minutes to allow the breadcrumbs to absorb the milk.

Step 3

Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper to the bowl. Mix everything thoroughly with your hands or a wooden spoon until evenly combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the meatloaf dense.

Step 4

Transfer the meat mixture into the prepared loaf pan. Press it down gently to ensure it is evenly shaped and packed.

Step 5

In a small bowl, mix the additional ketchup and brown sugar to create the glaze. Spread this mixture evenly over the top of the meatloaf.

Step 6

Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 60 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the meatloaf reaches 160°F (71°C).

Step 7

Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing. This helps the juices redistribute for a moist and tender texture.

Step 8

Slice the meatloaf and serve hot with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes and green beans.
