Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 cups Unsalted butter
  • 1.5 cups Granulated sugar
  • 3 large Eggs
  • 1 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 0.75 cups Freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 tablespoons Orange zest
  • 0.25 cups Whole milk
  • 1 cups Powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons Freshly squeezed orange juice (for glaze)
  • 1 teaspoons Orange zest (for garnish, optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to cream the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 4

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Step 5

Gradually mix in the orange juice, orange zest, and milk. The mixture may look slightly curdled—this is normal.

Step 6

Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients in three parts, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.

Step 7

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 9

Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

To prepare the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar and orange juice in a small bowl until smooth.

Step 11

Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake, allowing it to run down the sides. Garnish with additional orange zest if desired.

Step 12

Let the glaze set for about 15 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
