Ingredients

  • 2 racks Pork spare ribs
  • 1 cup Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Smoked paprika
  • 2 tablespoons Garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Cayenne pepper
  • 0.5 cup Apple cider vinegar
  • 0.25 cup Honey
  • 1.5 cups Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Liquid smoke (optional)
  • 1 roll Aluminum foil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).

Step 2

Prepare the rib racks by removing the silver skin (thin membrane) from the underside of the ribs. Use a knife to loosen it and a paper towel for grip to pull it off cleanly.

Step 3

In a small mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. This is your dry rub.

Step 4

Rub the spice mix generously over both sides of the ribs, ensuring an even coating.

Step 5

Place the ribs on a large sheet of aluminum foil, meat side up. Wrap them tightly in foil to make a sealed packet, ensuring no juices escape.

Step 6

Place the foil-wrapped ribs on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 2.5 hours. This slow-cooks the ribs to tender perfection.

Step 7

While the ribs are baking, prepare the barbecue sauce. In a saucepan, combine the apple cider vinegar, honey, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and liquid smoke, if using. Simmer over medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.

Step 8

Remove the ribs from the oven and carefully open the foil packets. The ribs will be very tender, so handle them gently.

Step 9

Switch your oven to broil (or preheat a grill to medium-high heat). Brush a generous layer of barbecue sauce over the ribs.

Step 10

Place the ribs under the broiler or on the grill for 5–7 minutes, allowing the sauce to caramelize and create a sticky glaze. Watch them carefully to prevent burning.

Step 11

Remove the ribs, let them rest for 5 minutes, and then slice into individual portions.

Step 12

Serve the ribs hot with any extra barbecue sauce and your favorite side dishes.
