Ingredients

  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 6 slices bacon
  • 0.5 medium red onion
  • 0.5 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 0.5 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 0.25 cup raisins
  • 0.25 cup sunflower seeds
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Step 1

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Blanch the broccoli florets for 1-2 minutes until bright green but still crisp. Drain and immediately transfer to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Once cooled, drain thoroughly and pat dry with a paper towel.

Step 2

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon slices until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the skillet and place on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess grease. Once cooled, crumble the bacon into small pieces.

Step 3

Thinly slice the red onion into small strips or dice it finely, depending on your preference.

Step 4

In a small mixing bowl, prepare the dressing by whisking together the mayonnaise, granulated sugar, apple cider vinegar, salt, and black pepper. Stir until smooth and set aside.

Step 5

In a large mixing bowl, combine the blanched broccoli, crumbled bacon, red onion, shredded cheddar cheese, raisins, and sunflower seeds.

Step 6

Pour the dressing over the broccoli mixture and toss everything together until evenly coated.

Step 7

Cover the salad and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
