Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds Flank steak
  • 0.5 cups Sake
  • 0.25 cups Soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Honey
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame oil
  • 3 cloves Fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 Green onions, chopped
  • 0.5 teaspoons Red pepper flakes
  • 0.25 teaspoons Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the sake, soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes to form the marinade.

Step 2

Place the flank steak in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the steak, ensuring the meat is fully coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish tightly with plastic wrap.

Step 3

Refrigerate the steak for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to deeply penetrate the meat.

Step 4

Remove the flank steak from the refrigerator 30 minutes prior to cooking to allow it to come to room temperature. Discard the marinade.

Step 5

Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grilling surface to prevent sticking.

Step 6

Place the steak on the hot grill and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or longer for desired doneness. Use a meat thermometer to check the temperature; for medium-rare, the internal temperature should reach 130-135°F (54-57°C).

Step 7

Remove the steak from the grill and transfer it to a cutting board. Let the steak rest for 5-10 minutes to retain its juices.

Step 8

Slice the steak thinly against the grain and garnish with freshly chopped green onions if desired.

Step 9

Serve warm with your favorite sides, such as grilled vegetables, rice, or a fresh salad.
