In a large mixing bowl, combine masa harina and salt. Stir to evenly distribute the salt.
Gradually pour in the hot water, mixing with a spoon or your hands until the dough comes together and has the consistency of soft playdough. It should not be sticky or crumbly.
Cover the dough with a damp towel and let it rest for 10 minutes to fully hydrate.
Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and roll each portion into a ball about the size of a golf ball.
Preheat a cast iron skillet or nonstick griddle over medium-high heat.
If using a tortilla press, place a piece of plastic wrap or parchment paper on each side of the press. Place one dough ball in the center and press down firmly to flatten. If using a rolling pin, place a dough ball between two sheets of parchment paper and roll out into a thin circle approximately 6 inches in diameter.
