Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs Ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Freshly ground black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp Onion powder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 slices Cheddar cheese slices
  • 4 Burger buns
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 4 Lettuce leaves
  • 1 Tomato, sliced
  • 8 slices Pickle slices
  • 4 tbsp Ketchup
  • 4 tbsp Mayonnaise

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the burgers tender.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Gently shape each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick, making a slight indentation in the center to prevent puffing while cooking.

Step 3

Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking.

Step 4

Place the burger patties on the grill. Cook for 3-4 minutes on the first side without pressing down, allowing a good sear to form.

Step 5

Flip the patties and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness, or adjust the time to your preferred level of doneness.

Step 6

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover with a lid or aluminum foil to allow the cheese to melt.

Step 7

Meanwhile, slice the burger buns in half and spread a thin layer of butter on each cut side. Toast the buns on the grill or in a skillet until golden brown.

Step 8

Assemble the burgers: Spread 1 tablespoon each of ketchup and mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun. Layer with a lettuce leaf, a cooked burger patty with melted cheese, a tomato slice, and 2 pickle slices. Top with the other half of the bun.

Step 9

Serve immediately with your favorite sides like fries, onion rings, or a fresh salad.
