Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 slices Cheddar cheese slices (optional)
  • 4 pieces Burger buns
  • 4 leaves Lettuce leaves
  • 4 slices Tomato slices
  • 8 slices Pickles
  • 4 tablespoons Ketchup
  • 4 teaspoons Mustard
  • 4 tablespoons Mayonnaise

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Use your hands to gently mix the ingredients, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Step 2

Divide the meat mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties about 3/4-inch thick. Use your thumb to press a shallow indentation in the center of each patty to ensure even cooking.

Step 3

Preheat a grill or stovetop skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grates or the pan to prevent sticking.

Step 4

Place the patties on the hot grill or skillet. Cook for about 4 minutes on the first side without moving the patties, allowing a nice sear to develop.

Step 5

Flip the patties and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium-rare or up to 6 minutes for well-done. If using cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking, covering the grill or skillet to help the cheese melt.

Step 6

While the patties cook, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in the oven until golden brown.

Step 7

Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom bun, followed by the cooked patty, a slice of tomato, two pickle slices, and your preferred condiments (ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise). Top with the other half of the bun.

Step 8

Serve immediately with your favorite sides, such as fries, onion rings, or a crisp salad.
