Ingredients

  • 4 pieces Boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 slices Provolone cheese slices
  • 2 cups Marinara sauce
  • 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 cup Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 0.5 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with olive oil or non-stick cooking spray.

Step 2

Prepare a breading station with three shallow dishes. In the first dish, add the flour. In the second dish, beat the eggs. In the third dish, combine breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.

Step 3

Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness of about 1/2 inch using a meat mallet or rolling pin. This helps them cook evenly.

Step 4

Dredge each chicken breast in the flour, shaking off excess. Dip it into the beaten eggs, then coat it thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture.

Step 5

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sear the breaded chicken breasts for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown. They do not need to be fully cooked at this stage.

Step 6

Transfer the seared chicken breasts to the prepared baking dish. Spoon marinara sauce evenly over each piece, then top each with a slice of provolone cheese.

Step 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 8

Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired, and serve warm with your choice of pasta, rice, or vegetables.
