Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 3 tablespoons Honey
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 2.25 teaspoons Instant yeast
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 as needed Nonstick cooking spray

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, heat the milk, water, honey, and butter over medium-low heat until the butter is melted and the mixture is warm (about 110°F/43°C). Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of the flour, yeast, and salt. Stir to combine.

Step 3

Add the warm milk mixture and the egg to the flour mixture. Mix thoroughly until a sticky dough begins to form.

Step 4

Gradually add the remaining flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing after each addition, until the dough becomes soft and only slightly sticky.

Step 5

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook and knead for 6-8 minutes.

Step 6

Lightly grease a large bowl with nonstick cooking spray. Place the dough in the bowl, turning it to coat the surface. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 7

Punch down the dough and transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.

Step 8

Cover the loaf with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise again for 30-40 minutes, or until it has doubled in size again and crests above the top of the pan.

Step 9

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 10

Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Step 11

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 12

Slice and serve plain, toasted, or as part of your favorite sandwich.
