Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
  • 0.5 cup Yellow onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 0.25 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 4 slices Cheddar cheese slices
  • 4 pieces Burger buns
  • 2 tablespoons Butter, softened
  • 4 leaves Lettuce leaves
  • 1 large Tomato, sliced
  • 0.25 cup Pickles, sliced
  • 0 Ketchup (optional)
  • 0 Mayonnaise (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, diced onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Do not overmix.

Step 2

Divide the meat mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 3/4-inch thick. Use your thumb to press a small indent into the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up during cooking.

Step 3

Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the surface if using a skillet.

Step 4

Cook the burger patties for about 4-5 minutes per side or to your desired level of doneness (internal temperature of 160°F for fully cooked). Add a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover with a lid to let the cheese melt.

Step 5

While the patties are cooking, butter the insides of the burger buns and toast them in a separate skillet or on the grill until golden brown.

Step 6

Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each toasted bun, followed by a cooked burger patty, a slice of tomato, and pickle slices. Add ketchup and mayonnaise if desired.

Step 7

Place the top half of the bun on the burger and serve immediately. Enjoy your homemade Jenni S Burgers!
