Ingredients

  • 4 pieces (medium-sized) Chicken breast
  • 0.5 cup Cornstarch
  • 0.5 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 2 cups Vegetable oil
  • 0.25 cup Soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup Honey
  • 3 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame oil
  • 3 cloves, minced Garlic
  • 1 teaspoon, minced Ginger
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch (for slurry)
  • 2 tablespoons Water (for slurry)
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame seeds
  • 2 stalks, sliced Green onions

Directions

Step 1

Cut the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces and set aside.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, combine 0.5 cup of cornstarch and 0.5 cup of all-purpose flour. In another bowl, beat the 2 eggs.

Step 3

Dredge each chicken piece in the flour mixture, then dip into the beaten eggs, and coat once again in the flour mixture. Repeat for all chicken pieces and set aside on a plate.

Step 4

Heat 2 cups of vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or wok over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot (around 350°F or 175°C), fry the chicken pieces in small batches until golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes per batch. Drain on paper towels and set aside.

Step 5

In a small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of water to make a slurry. Set aside.

Step 6

In a small pot over medium heat, combine 0.25 cup of soy sauce, 0.25 cup of honey, 3 tablespoons of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, 3 cloves of minced garlic, 1 teaspoon of minced ginger, and 0.5 cup of water. Stir and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.

Step 7

Once the sauce is simmering, gradually stir in the cornstarch slurry to thicken. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce reaches your desired consistency. Remove from heat.

Step 8

Place the fried chicken into a large mixing bowl and pour the sauce over the chicken. Toss until all pieces are evenly coated.

Step 9

Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve immediately with steamed rice or your favorite side dish.
