Ingredients

  • 6 medium ripe tomatoes
  • 1 small red onion
  • 1 medium jalapeño pepper
  • 2 large garlic cloves
  • 1 large lime
  • 0.5 cup fresh cilantro
  • 0.5 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoons salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoons sugar

Directions

Step 1

Wash and pat dry the tomatoes, red onion, jalapeño pepper, cilantro, and lime.

Step 2

Roughly chop the tomatoes and place them into a food processor or blender.

Step 3

Peel and quarter the red onion, then add it to the food processor.

Step 4

Remove the seeds from the jalapeño (for a milder salsa; keep seeds for more heat) and chop it into smaller pieces. Add to the food processor.

Step 5

Peel the garlic cloves and add them whole to the mixture.

Step 6

Add the fresh cilantro, ground cumin, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the food processor.

Step 7

Cut the lime in half and squeeze its juice into the food processor, taking care to remove any seeds.

Step 8

Pulse the food processor a few times for a chunky texture, or blend until smooth, depending on your preference.

Step 9

Taste the salsa and adjust seasoning if necessary. Add more salt or lime juice to brighten the flavors, if desired.

Step 10

Transfer the salsa to a serving bowl or airtight container. For best flavor, let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow the ingredients to meld together.

Step 11

Serve with tortilla chips, tacos, burritos, or your favorite dishes. Enjoy!
