Ingredients

  • 250 g Ground beef
  • 250 g Ground pork
  • 1 medium, finely chopped Onion
  • 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 4 tbsp Milk
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.25 tsp Nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp Ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tbsp Water
  • 1 tsp Sugar

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs and milk. Let them sit for 5 minutes until the breadcrumbs are softened.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, finely chopped onion, soaked breadcrumbs, egg, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg. Mix thoroughly with your hands until the mixture is well combined and sticky.

Step 3

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into an oval patty, about ¾ inch thick. Using your thumb, make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up during cooking.

Step 4

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. When the oil is hot, place the patties in the skillet, indentation side up. Cook for 3–4 minutes on one side, until browned.

Step 5

Flip the patties carefully and cook for another 3–4 minutes on the other side. If the patties brown too quickly, reduce the heat to medium-low.

Step 6

Once both sides are seared, lower the heat to low, cover the skillet with a lid, and cook for an additional 5–7 minutes until the patties are fully cooked through (internal temperature should reach 160°F/70°C). Remove the patties and set them aside.

Step 7

In the same skillet, combine soy sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, water, and sugar. Stir well and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Allow the sauce to thicken slightly, about 2 minutes.

Step 8

Return the patties to the skillet and spoon the sauce over them. Cook for another 1–2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Step 9

Serve the Hambagu hot with the sauce drizzled over the top. Pair with steamed white rice or a side of vegetables for a complete meal.
