Ingredients

  • 250 grams All-purpose flour
  • 30 grams Sugar
  • 5 grams Salt
  • 6 grams Instant yeast
  • 150 milliliters Whole milk
  • 25 grams Unsalted butter
  • 1000 milliliters Oil for frying
  • 100 grams Panko bread crumbs
  • 300 grams Prepared Japanese curry filling
  • 1 Egg

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.

Step 2

Warm the milk slightly and add it to the dry ingredients along with softened butter.

Step 3

Mix the ingredients together until a dough forms. Knead for about 10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Step 4

Form the dough into a ball, place it in a lightly greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes or until doubled in size.

Step 5

Meanwhile, prepare the Japanese curry filling. It should be thick and not too runny to prevent leakage from the dough.

Step 6

Once the dough has risen, punch it down to remove the air and divide it into six equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball.

Step 7

Flatten each dough ball into a circle, about 1 cm thick. Place about 50 grams of curry filling in the center of each dough piece.

Step 8

Carefully gather the edges of the dough around the filling, pinching them together tightly to seal and form a ball.

Step 9

In a bowl, beat the egg and lightly coat each filled dough ball with the egg wash.

Step 10

Roll the egg-coated dough balls in panko bread crumbs, ensuring they are completely covered.

Step 11

Heat oil in a deep fryer or a large pot to 170°C (340°F).

Step 12

Carefully lower the curry bread into the hot oil and fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and crispy.

Step 13

Remove the curry breads from the oil using a slotted spoon and let them drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

Step 14

Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy the crispy outside and flavorful curry-filled inside.
