Ingredients

  • 6 large Russet potatoes
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 5 cloves Garlic cloves
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons Fresh thyme leaves
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 teaspoon Olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with olive oil.

Step 2

Peel the potatoes and slice them into thin, even rounds (approximately 1/8 inch thick). Use a mandoline slicer for even slices, if available.

Step 3

In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes, until fragrant but not browned.

Step 4

Stir the heavy cream, salt, pepper, and thyme into the saucepan with the garlic butter. Heat gently until warmed through, then remove from heat.

Step 5

Layer half of the potato slices in the prepared baking dish, overlapping slightly. Pour half of the cream mixture evenly over the potatoes.

Step 6

Layer the remaining potato slices on top and pour the rest of the cream mixture over them, ensuring the potatoes are evenly coated.

Step 7

Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top layer of potatoes.

Step 8

Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 50 minutes.

Step 9

Remove the foil and continue baking uncovered for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.

Step 10

Allow the dish to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. Garnish with extra thyme leaves, if desired.
