Ingredients

  • 12 sheets lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons black pepper
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 4 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, cook the lasagna noodles until al dente, then drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.

Step 4

Add the ground beef and Italian sausage to the skillet, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned and no longer pink, then drain any excess fat.

Step 5

Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, dried basil, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer the meat sauce over low heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 6

In a medium mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and chopped parsley until smooth. Set aside.

Step 7

To assemble the lasagna, spread a thin layer of meat sauce at the bottom of a 9x13-inch (23x33 cm) baking dish.

Step 8

Place 3 lasagna noodles on top of the sauce. Spread a third of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a layer of mozzarella cheese and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

Step 9

Repeat the layers (sauce, noodles, ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan) two more times, finishing with a generous layer of mozzarella and Parmesan on top.

Step 10

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil, making sure it doesn't touch the cheese, and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Step 11

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbling, and lightly browned.

Step 12

Allow the lasagna to cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
