Ingredients

  • 4 pieces Tilapia fillets
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.25 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Honey
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha or chili garlic sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Rice vinegar
  • 2 pieces Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh ginger, grated
  • 0.25 cup Water
  • 1 teaspoon Cornstarch
  • 2 pieces Green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Pat the tilapia fillets dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and garlic powder.

Step 2

Dredge each fillet lightly in the all-purpose flour, shaking off any excess.

Step 3

Heat olive oil and butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Once the butter is melted and bubbly, place the tilapia fillets in the pan.

Step 4

Cook the tilapia for about 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the fillets from the skillet and set aside on a plate covered with aluminum foil to keep warm.

Step 5

In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 6

Add soy sauce, honey, sriracha (or chili garlic sauce), and rice vinegar to the skillet. Stir to combine.

Step 7

In a small bowl, mix the water and cornstarch to create a slurry. Slowly pour the slurry into the sauce while stirring constantly to thicken the sauce. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, until the sauce is glossy and slightly thickened.

Step 8

Return the tilapia fillets to the skillet, spooning the sauce over the top. Let the fish heat through for 1-2 minutes before removing from heat.

Step 9

Serve the tilapia with the spicy dark sauce drizzled over it. Garnish with sliced green onions and enjoy with steamed rice or sautéed vegetables.
