Ingredients

  • 15 oz (1 can, drained and rinsed) Red kidney beans
  • 2 small (seeded and finely chopped) Jalapeno peppers
  • 1 cup Rolled oats
  • 3 tablespoons BBQ sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Flour
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 4 Burger buns
  • 4 Lettuce leaves
  • 4 Tomato slices
  • 4 tablespoons Vegan mayo or additional BBQ sauce (optional, for topping)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, mash the red kidney beans with a fork or potato masher until they are mostly smooth but still have a few chunks for texture.

Step 2

Add the chopped jalapenos, rolled oats, BBQ sauce, ground cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper to the bowl. Mix thoroughly until well combined.

Step 3

Sprinkle in the flour and mix again. The mixture should hold together when pressed. If it's too wet, add a little more flour, 1 teaspoon at a time.

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty about 3/4 inch thick.
