Peel, core, and dice the pears into small chunks. Set aside.
Finely chop the onion. Grate the fresh ginger and mince the garlic cloves.
In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the white vinegar and brown sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
Add the chopped onion, ginger, garlic, raisins, cinnamon stick, ground cloves, ground allspice, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir well.
Bring the mixture to a simmer, then add the diced pears.

Remove the cinnamon stick and discard it.
