Ingredients

  • 30 oz baked beans
  • 8 oz pork belly or bacon
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 2 tbsp molasses
  • 1 tsp liquid smoke
  • 0.5 cup barbecue sauce
  • 0.5 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 0.25 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 0.5 tsp paprika
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the pork belly or bacon until crispy. Remove from skillet, chop into small pieces, and set aside. Reserve about 1 tablespoon of the rendered fat in the skillet.

Step 3

In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent, about 4-5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 4

In a large mixing bowl, combine the baked beans (including their liquid), chopped pork belly or bacon, sautéed onion and garlic, ketchup, brown sugar, yellow mustard, molasses, liquid smoke, barbecue sauce, cayenne pepper, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly.

Step 5

Transfer the bean mixture to an oven-safe baking dish and spread evenly.

Step 6

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 60 minutes.

Step 7

After 60 minutes, remove the foil and stir the beans. Return the dish to the oven and bake uncovered for an additional 20-30 minutes, or until the beans are thick and bubbly.

Step 8

Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Serve warm as a side dish to your favorite barbecue mains.
