Ingredients

  • 500 grams Fresh edamame (soybeans in pod)
  • 2 tablespoons Sea salt
  • 2000 milliliters Water
  • 1 teaspoon Toasted sesame oil
  • 1 clove Garlic (finely minced)
  • 0.25 teaspoons Red chili flakes (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the edamame pods under cold water to remove any dirt or debris.

Step 2

Bring 2000 milliliters of water to a boil in a large pot. Add half of the sea salt (1 tablespoon) to the boiling water.

Step 3

Add the edamame pods to the boiling water and cook for 5-6 minutes, or until the beans inside the pods are tender but still firm.

Step 4

While the edamame is cooking, heat the toasted sesame oil in a small pan over low heat. Add the finely minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. If using, stir in the red chili flakes, then remove from heat.

Step 5

Drain the cooked edamame pods in a colander and immediately sprinkle the remaining sea salt (1 tablespoon) over the hot pods. Toss well to coat evenly.

Step 6

Drizzle the garlic-sesame oil mixture over the salted edamame and toss again to distribute the flavor.

Step 7

Serve the edamame warm or at room temperature as a delicious appetizer or snack. To eat, gently squeeze the beans out of the pod directly into your mouth, discarding the pod.
