Ingredients

  • 12 pieces Cannelloni tubes
  • 500 grams Ground pork
  • 250 grams Fresh spinach
  • 200 grams Ricotta cheese
  • 50 grams Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 150 grams Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 500 ml Marinara sauce
  • 40 grams Unsalted butter
  • 40 grams All-purpose flour
  • 500 ml Whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 pieces Garlic cloves, minced
  • 0.5 teaspoons Nutmeg, freshly grated
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoons Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

Step 2

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Sauté the minced garlic for 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 3

Add the ground pork to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Season with 1 teaspoon of salt and 0.5 teaspoon of black pepper.

Step 4

Add the fresh spinach to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until wilted. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.

Step 5

In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked pork and spinach mixture with ricotta cheese and Parmesan cheese. Stir until well mixed.

Step 6

Prepare the béchamel sauce: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, whisking constantly.

Step 7

Gradually add the milk to the butter-flour mixture, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens. Season with 0.5 teaspoon of salt, 0.5 teaspoon of pepper, and freshly grated nutmeg. Remove from heat.

Step 8

Spread 1 cup of marinara sauce evenly over the bottom of a large baking dish.

Step 9

Using a piping bag or spoon, fill the uncooked cannelloni tubes with the pork and spinach filling. Arrange the filled tubes in a single layer over the marinara sauce in the baking dish.

Step 10

Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the cannelloni, ensuring they are fully covered.

Step 11

Drizzle the béchamel sauce evenly over the marinara layer, then sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.

Step 12

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Step 13

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and bubbly.

Step 14

Remove from the oven and let the dish rest for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy your Italian Style Pork and Spinach Cannelloni!
