Ingredients

  • 1.25 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.33 cups Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 cups Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups Packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cups Semisweet chocolate chips
  • 0.5 cups Milk chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoons Vanilla extract (for baking later)
  • 0.5 cups Unsalted butter, softened (for baking later)
  • 1 Large egg (for baking later)

Directions

Step 1

In a 1-quart (32 oz.) jar, layer the ingredients in the following order: flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, salt, granulated sugar, light brown sugar, semisweet chocolate chips, and milk chocolate chips. Gently pack down each layer before adding the next one. Seal the jar with a tight-fitting lid.

Step 2

Print or write the baking instructions on a tag and attach it to the jar. The instructions should read: 'To make the cookies, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, beat together 1/2 cup (1 stick) of softened unsalted butter, 1 large egg, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Add the contents of the jar and stir until fully combined. Drop tablespoon-sized dough balls onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are set and the centers look slightly undercooked. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Makes about 24 cookies.'

Step 3

Decorate the jar as desired with ribbon, fabric, or labels for a personalized touch. Store at room temperature for up to 3 months or gift immediately!
