Ingredients

  • 300 grams All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 120 grams Butter (cold and cubed)
  • 150 grams Granulated sugar
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 60 milliliters Milk
  • 3 medium Apples (peeled, cored, and sliced thinly)
  • 2 tablespoons Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • 500 milliliters Whole milk (for custard sauce)
  • 4 large Egg yolks (for custard sauce)
  • 50 grams Granulated sugar (for custard sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract (for custard sauce)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan. Line the bottom with parchment paper for easy removal.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and ground cinnamon. Mix well.

Step 3

Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

Step 4

Stir in the granulated sugar and create a well in the center of the mixture.

Step 5

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. Pour this mixture into the well and stir gently to form a dough.

Step 6

Fold the thinly sliced apples into the dough, ensuring they are evenly distributed.

Step 7

Transfer the dough into the prepared cake pan and smooth the surface with a spatula.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Step 9

While the cake is baking, prepare the custard sauce by heating the whole milk in a saucepan over medium heat until it begins to steam (do not let it boil).

Step 10

In another bowl, whisk the egg yolks, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until pale and creamy.

Step 11

Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly. Return the mixture to the saucepan over low heat and stir continuously until the custard thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 12

Once the cake is baked, allow it to cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 13

Dust the cooled cake with powdered sugar and serve slices with warm custard sauce drizzled over the top. Enjoy!
