Ingredients

  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 cups ham, diced
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon paprika

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch casserole dish and set aside.

Step 2

Cook the elbow macaroni in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a medium-sized saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux, stirring constantly.

Step 4

Slowly pour in the milk and heavy cream, whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Cook for 4-5 minutes until the mixture thickens.

Step 5

Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and Parmesan cheese until completely melted and the sauce is smooth. Add salt, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well.

Step 6

Combine the cooked macaroni and diced ham in a large bowl. Pour the cheese sauce over the mixture and gently fold until everything is coated.

Step 7

Transfer the macaroni mixture to the prepared casserole dish, spreading it evenly.

Step 8

In a small bowl, mix the bread crumbs with olive oil until evenly coated. Sprinkle the bread crumbs over the top of the casserole.

Step 9

Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.

Step 10

Remove from the oven and let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
