Ingredients

  • 2 sheets Puff pastry sheets
  • 225 grams Cream cheese, softened
  • 50 grams Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 large Egg yolk
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour (for dusting)
  • 65 grams Powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Milk
  • 1 batch Egg wash (1 egg whisked with 1 tablespoon water)
  • 60 grams Strawberry or raspberry jam (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and line two baking trays with parchment paper.

Step 2

Lightly dust your work surface with flour and roll out the puff pastry sheets until they measure approximately 12x12 inches. Cut each sheet into 4 equal squares, yielding 8 squares total.

Step 3

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and egg yolk. Mix until smooth and creamy.

Step 4

Spoon a tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture into the center of each puff pastry square. If desired, add a small dollop of jam on top of the cream cheese filling.

Step 5

To shape the pastries, fold each corner of the square inward toward the center, pressing gently to secure. Alternatively, you can leave the pastries open-faced for a rustic look.

Step 6

Brush the edges of the pastries with egg wash to ensure a golden-brown finish while baking.

Step 7

Transfer the pastries to the prepared baking trays, ensuring they are spaced about 2 inches apart to allow for puffing.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown.

Step 9

While the pastries are baking, prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding a drop of milk if needed.

Step 10

Once the pastries are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool for 10 minutes on the baking trays.

Step 11

Drizzle the prepared glaze over the cooled pastries and serve.
