Ingredients

  • 500 grams broccoli florets
  • 1 medium, finely chopped onion
  • 1 medium, finely chopped tomato
  • 3 minced garlic cloves
  • 1 inch, minced fresh ginger
  • 1 finely chopped (optional) green chili
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 0.5 teaspoons turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons red chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons garam masala
  • 0.75 teaspoons (adjust to taste) salt
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 2 tablespoons, chopped (for garnish) fresh cilantro leaves
  • 3 tablespoons water

Directions

Step 1

Wash the broccoli florets thoroughly and set them aside to drain.

Step 2

Heat a large skillet or wok over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of cooking oil.

Step 3

Once the oil is hot, add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds and let them crackle for a few seconds.

Step 4

Add the minced garlic, minced ginger, and optional green chili. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Step 5

Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent and light golden, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 6

Stir in the finely chopped tomato and cook until the tomato softens and loses its raw texture, about 3-5 minutes.

Step 7

Add the turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well to combine the spices with the base.

Step 8

Add the broccoli florets to the skillet and toss to coat them evenly with the spice mixture.

Step 9

Sprinkle 3 tablespoons of water over the broccoli and cover the skillet with a lid. Lower the heat to medium-low and let it steam-cook for 7-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the broccoli is tender but still has a slight crunch.

Step 10

Once the broccoli is cooked, sprinkle 0.5 teaspoons of garam masala over the dish and mix well.

Step 11

Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro leaves before serving.

Step 12

Serve warm as a side dish with steamed rice, chapati, or enjoy it on its own!
