Ingredients

  • 2 cups Whole wheat flour (atta)
  • 0.75 cups Water
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Ghee or oil (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt. Mix well.

Step 2

Slowly add water to the flour mixture, a little at a time, while mixing with your hands.

Step 3

Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes soft and pliable. If needed, add a few more tablespoons of water, but ensure the dough is not sticky.

Step 4

Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 15-20 minutes.

Step 5

After the resting period, divide the dough into 8 equal parts and shape each into a ball.

Step 6

On a lightly floured surface, take one dough ball and flatten it slightly with your fingers.

Step 7

Using a rolling pin, roll the dough into a flat circle about 6-8 inches in diameter. Ensure the edges are not thicker than the center.

Step 8

Heat a tawa or flat skillet over medium-high heat.

Step 9

Place the rolled dough on the hot tawa. Cook for about 30-45 seconds until small bubbles appear on the surface.

Step 10

Flip the roti over and cook for another 30-45 seconds. If desired, add a small amount of ghee or oil at this stage for additional flavor.

Step 11

Flip it again and press gently with a cloth or spatula. You'll notice the roti puff up.

Step 12

Once cooked, remove from the tawa and keep warm in a container or wrap in a clean cloth.

Step 13

Repeat the process for the remaining dough balls.

Step 14

Serve hot with your favorite curry or vegetables.
