Ingredients

  • 2 slices Bread (any type)
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 slice Cheese (optional, any affordable type like sliced cheddar or American)
  • 1 teaspoon Butter or cooking oil
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 pinch Pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Optional toppings (e.g., ketchup, hot sauce, or mayonnaise)

Directions

Step 1

Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add 1 teaspoon of butter or cooking oil.

Step 2

Crack the egg into the skillet and let it cook for 1 to 2 minutes, or until the white is set but the yolk is still runny (or cook longer for a fully set yolk). Sprinkle a pinch of salt and pepper on the egg.

Step 3

While the egg is cooking, lightly toast the two slices of bread in a toaster or on a dry skillet until golden brown.

Step 4

If using cheese, place the slice of cheese on one of the pieces of toast immediately after it’s done so it starts to melt.

Step 5

Carefully remove the cooked egg from the skillet and place it on top of the cheese. If you'd like, break the yolk slightly before placing it on the sandwich.

Step 6

Add any optional toppings like ketchup, hot sauce, or mayonnaise for extra flavor.

Step 7

Close the sandwich with the second slice of bread, slice it in half if desired, and enjoy your easy, affordable breakfast sandwich!
