Ingredients

  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries
  • 1 large orange
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 medium apple
  • 0.33 cup pecans (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the fresh cranberries thoroughly under cold water and drain them well.

Step 2

Wash the orange thoroughly to remove any wax or dirt. Cut the orange into quarters and remove any seeds, but leave the peel on.

Step 3

Core and roughly chop the apple into smaller pieces. There's no need to peel it.

Step 4

In a food processor, combine the cranberries, orange quarters (with peel), and apple pieces. Pulse several times to coarsely chop the ingredients. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.

Step 5

Add the granulated sugar to the food processor and pulse again until the mixture reaches your desired consistency. The relish should be finely chopped but not pureed.

Step 6

If desired, stir in pecans for a nutty crunch.

Step 7

Transfer the cranberry relish to a bowl, cover, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.

Step 8

Serve chilled or at room temperature as a side dish or condiment.
