Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cups canned baked beans
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Once cooled, crumble the bacon and set it aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet with the bacon drippings, add the ground beef and cook over medium heat until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess grease and set the beef aside.

Step 4

In a small amount of remaining grease, sauté the diced onion until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute, stirring frequently.

Step 5

In a large mixing bowl, combine the baked beans, cooked beef, sautéed onion and garlic, crumbled bacon, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir until everything is evenly mixed.

Step 6

Transfer the bean mixture to a 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Step 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 35 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbling and slightly thickened.

Step 8

Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5–7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 9

Allow the casserole to cool for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
