Ingredients

  • 500 g Ground chicken
  • 120 g Crushed pineapple (drained)
  • 60 g Panko breadcrumbs
  • 50 g Shredded coconut (unsweetened)
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Ginger (grated)
  • 1 clove Garlic (minced)
  • 2 stalks Green onions (chopped)
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 0 (optional) Sweet chili sauce (for dipping)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, drained crushed pineapple, panko breadcrumbs, shredded coconut, egg, soy sauce, grated ginger, minced garlic, and green onions.

Step 2

Season the mixture with salt and black pepper, and mix everything thoroughly until combined.

Step 3

Using clean hands, scoop about 1 1/2 tablespoons of the mixture and roll it into a ball. Repeat this process until all the mixture is used, placing the formed balls onto a plate or tray.

Step 4

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Step 5

Once the oil is hot, carefully place the Hula Balls into the skillet in small batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.

Step 6

Cook the balls for about 2 to 3 minutes per side, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C).

Step 7

Remove the cooked Hula Balls and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

Step 8

Serve the Hula Balls warm with sweet chili sauce on the side for dipping, if desired.
