Ingredients

  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 0.25 cups Warm water (110°F)
  • 0.25 cups Honey
  • 0.5 cups Warm milk (110°F)
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 teaspoons Salt
  • 1.25 cups Whole wheat flour
  • 1.75 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 large Egg

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine the yeast and warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine honey, warm milk, melted butter, and salt. Stir in the yeast mixture.

Step 3

Add the whole wheat flour and 1 cup of the all-purpose flour. Stir until combined.

Step 4

Add the egg and mix well. Gradually add the remaining all-purpose flour, a little at a time, until a soft dough forms.

Step 5

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 6

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 7

Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball.

Step 8

Place the rolls in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, leaving a little space between each roll. Cover loosely and let rise again for 30 minutes, or until puffy.

Step 9

Preheat the oven to 275°F (135°C). Bake the rolls for 20 minutes until set but not browned. Remove from oven and let cool completely.

Step 10

To serve, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 11

Serve warm with butter, honey, or your favorite spread!
