Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups Warm water
  • 0.25 cups Honey
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 1 cups Rolled oats
  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 cups Whole wheat flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons Additional oats for topping (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In the bowl of your Kitchenaid mixer, combine warm water and honey. Stir until honey dissolves.

Step 2

Sprinkle active dry yeast over the water-honey mixture. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbly and frothy, indicating the yeast is active.

Step 3

Attach the Kitchenaid mixer's dough hook. Add rolled oats, all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, and salt to the mixing bowl.

Step 4

With the mixer on low speed, pour in the melted butter. Gradually increase to medium speed and knead the dough for 8-10 minutes. The dough should be smooth and slightly sticky but pull away from the bowl. If too wet, add a tablespoon of flour at a time until the texture is right.

Step 5

Lightly oil a large bowl and transfer the dough into it. Cover with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1-1.5 hours or until it doubles in size.

Step 6

Once risen, punch down the dough and transfer it to a floured surface. Shape the dough into a loaf, fitting it into a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.

Step 7

Cover the loaf pan with a towel and let the dough rise again for another 30-45 minutes until it doubles in size.

Step 8

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) while the dough is rising.

Step 9

Optionally, brush the top of the dough with water or milk and sprinkle with additional rolled oats for garnish.

Step 10

Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.

Step 11

Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
