Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the ziti pasta until al dente according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.
Add the ground Italian sausage to the skillet, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess fat if needed.
Pour the marinara sauce into the skillet with the cooked sausage mixture. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
