Ingredients

  • 6 medium-sized Roma tomatoes
  • 0.5 medium-sized Red onion
  • 1 medium-sized Jalapeño
  • 2 large Garlic cloves
  • 0.5 cup (loosely packed) Cilantro
  • 1 large Lime
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Sugar (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Wash the Roma tomatoes, red onion, jalapeño, and cilantro thoroughly under cold water.

Step 2

Dice the Roma tomatoes into medium-sized chunks and place them in a large mixing bowl.

Step 3

Finely chop half a red onion and add it to the bowl with the tomatoes.

Step 4

Slice the jalapeño in half lengthwise. Remove the seeds and membrane for a milder salsa, or leave them in for extra heat. Finely dice the jalapeño and add it to the bowl.

Step 5

Peel and finely mince the garlic cloves, then add them to the bowl.

Step 6

Roughly chop the cilantro leaves and stems, and measure out a loosely packed half-cup. Add it to the bowl.

Step 7

Cut the lime in half and squeeze its fresh juice over the salsa mixture. Be sure to catch any seeds.

Step 8

Sprinkle the ground cumin, salt, and sugar (if using) over the salsa.

Step 9

Gently toss all ingredients together until well combined, being careful not to overmix as this may break down the tomatoes.

Step 10

Taste the salsa and adjust salt, lime juice, or jalapeño heat as desired.

Step 11

Let the salsa sit for at least 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together before serving.

Step 12

Serve with tortilla chips, as a topping for tacos, or alongside your favorite dishes. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
