In a mixing bowl, combine the glutinous rice flour with warm water a little at a time. Knead the mixture until it forms a smooth, pliable dough. If the dough is too dry, add a small amount of water; if too wet, add a little extra glutinous rice flour.
In another bowl, mix the protein powder, peanut butter, honey, and chia seeds. Stir until it forms a thick, cohesive filling. Adjust with a small amount of water if the mixture is too dry.
Divide the dough into 20 equal portions and roll each into a small ball.
Flatten a piece of dough into a round disc, approximately 5 cm in diameter. Place about 1 teaspoon of the protein filling in the center of the disc.
Carefully wrap the dough around the filling and pinch the edges together to seal. Roll it back into a smooth ball. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.
Bring 1000 ml of water to a boil in a pot. Gently drop the Tangyuan into the boiling water, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
Cook the Tangyuan until they float to the surface, which usually takes about 5–7 minutes.
Using a slotted spoon, transfer the cooked Tangyuan to serving bowls. Optionally, serve with sweetened ginger syrup or warm almond milk for added flavor.
