Ingredients

  • 4 cups puffed rice
  • 1 cup red lentils
  • 1 cup chickpeas
  • 0.5 cup peanuts
  • 10 leaves curry leaves
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 0.5 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons fresh coriander
  • 1 whole lemon

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the red lentils thoroughly under cold water. Set them aside.

Step 2

Drain and rinse canned chickpeas or, if using dried ones, soak overnight and cook until tender.

Step 3

In a large non-stick pan, heat olive oil over medium heat.

Step 4

Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds to the oil. Sauté until they start to pop.

Step 5

Add curry leaves and peanuts. Roast until peanuts become golden brown.

Step 6

Stir in the red lentils and chickpeas. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 5-7 minutes or until lentils start to crisp.

Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well to coat everything with the spices.
