Total Time:25 mins
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Beef short ribs
  • 0.5 cup Soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup Brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup Asian pear, grated
  • 4 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 Green onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons Mirin (optional)
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Toasted sesame seeds

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the beef short ribs by rinsing them under cold water to remove any bone fragments, then pat them dry with paper towels.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, grated Asian pear, minced garlic, chopped green onions, sesame oil, mirin if using, and black pepper. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and the ingredients are well mixed.

Step 3

Add the short ribs to the marinade, ensuring that each piece is thoroughly coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 3 hours, or ideally overnight to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat.

Step 4

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grill grates to prevent the meat from sticking.

Step 5

Remove the marinated short ribs from the refrigerator and allow them to come to room temperature for about 20 minutes before grilling.

Step 6

Place the short ribs on the preheated grill. Cook them for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side, or until they have a nice char and are cooked to your liking.

Step 7

Transfer the grilled kalbi to a serving platter and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds for garnish.

Step 8

Serve the high protein Korean Kalbi warm alongside steamed rice or lettuce wraps for a delicious meal.
