Ingredients

  • 500 grams lean beef sirloin
  • 60 ml soy sauce
  • 1 medium pear, grated
  • 4 pieces garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 stalks green onions, chopped
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 0.5 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 medium carrot, julienned
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 150 grams mung bean sprouts
  • 150 grams button mushrooms, sliced
  • 200 grams firm tofu, diced
  • 400 grams cooked brown rice

Directions

Step 1

Start by placing the lean beef sirloin in the freezer for about 20 minutes. This will make it easier to slice thinly.

Step 2

While the beef chills, prepare the marinade by mixing soy sauce, grated pear, minced garlic, chopped green onions, honey, sesame oil, and ground black pepper in a medium bowl.

Step 3

Take the beef out of the freezer and slice it thinly against the grain.

Step 4

Add the sliced beef to the marinade and mix until all pieces are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for a deeper flavor.

Step 5

In a large pan over medium heat, toast the sesame seeds, set aside once golden brown.

Step 6

In the same pan, add the marinated beef along with the marinade and cook over high heat for about 5-7 minutes, or until the beef is cooked through and caramelized.

Step 7

Add the julienned carrot, sliced red bell pepper, mung bean sprouts, sliced button mushrooms, and diced tofu to the pan. Stir fry for an additional 5-6 minutes until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.

Step 8

Check for seasoning and adjust as necessary, adding more soy sauce or honey to taste.

Step 9

Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds over the Bulgogi and remove from heat.

Step 10

Serve hot over a bed of cooked brown rice.
