Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup vanilla whey protein powder
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for frosting)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, melted butter, and granulated sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.

Step 2

Sprinkle the instant yeast over the milk mixture and let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until it becomes foamy.

Step 3

Add the vanilla whey protein powder, salt, and half of the flour to the yeast mixture and mix until combined.

Step 4

Add the egg and continue mixing, then gradually add the remaining flour until a dough forms.

Step 5

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.

Step 6

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 7

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out to a rectangle shape, roughly 12x18 inches.

Step 8

In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and ground cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the dough.

Step 9

Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Cut into 12 even pieces.

Step 10

Place the rolls in a greased baking pan, cover, and let rise for another 20 minutes.

Step 11

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.

Step 12

For the frosting, beat together cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth.

Step 13

Spread the cream cheese frosting generously over the warm cinnamon rolls.

Step 14

Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
