Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups Whole wheat flour
  • 0.5 cup Vanilla protein powder
  • 2.25 teaspoons Instant yeast
  • 1 cup Warm water
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup Plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup Brown sugar (for caramel sauce)
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter (for caramel sauce)
  • 0.5 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, vanilla protein powder, and salt.

Step 2

In a separate small bowl, mix warm water with instant yeast and stir gently. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until the yeast is foamy.

Step 3

Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add half of the melted butter, the foamy yeast water, the egg, and Greek yogurt.

Step 4

Mix the ingredients until it forms a dough. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment for about 5 minutes.

Step 5

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and allow it to rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 6

Punch down the risen dough, then roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle, approximately 12x16 inches.

Step 7

Spread softened butter evenly over the surface of the dough. Sprinkle brown sugar and ground cinnamon evenly over the buttered dough.

Step 8

Roll up the dough tightly into a log starting from one of the long sides. Cut the log into 12 equal slices.

Step 9

Place the rolls in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, cover, and let them rise for an additional 30 minutes.

Step 10

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 11

While the rolls rise, prepare the caramel sauce. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter, and then add brown sugar and heavy cream. Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves and the sauce is smooth and bubbling. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.

Step 12

Pour the caramel sauce evenly over the prepared rolls.

Step 13

Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.

Step 14

Let the caramel rolls cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm.
