Ingredients

  • 500 grams Cooking apples (peeled, cored, and diced)
  • 500 grams Plums (stones removed and quartered)
  • 500 grams Pears (peeled, cored, and diced)
  • 1.5 kilograms Granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground nutmeg
  • 300 milliliters Water

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the fruit by peeling, coring, and dicing the apples and pears, and removing the stones and quartering the plums.

Step 2

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, combine the prepared apples, plums, pears, and water. Simmer gently over medium heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the fruit has softened and begun to break down.

Step 3

Add the granulated sugar, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg to the fruit mixture. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely.

Step 4

Increase the heat to bring the mixture to a rolling boil. Allow it to boil, stirring frequently, for 30-35 minutes or until the mixture thickens and reaches setting point.

Step 5

To test for setting point, place a small spoonful of the jam onto a cold plate and let it cool for a moment. Push it with your finger—if it wrinkles slightly, the jam is ready. If not, continue boiling and test again periodically.

Step 6

Once the jam reaches the desired consistency, remove it from the heat and carefully skim off any foam from the surface with a spoon.

Step 7

Sterilize glass jars by washing them in hot, soapy water, rinsing thoroughly, and drying in a low oven (around 110°C/230°F) for 10-15 minutes.

Step 8

Pour the hot jam into the sterilized jars, leaving about 1 cm of headspace at the top. Seal immediately with sterilized lids and allow the jars to cool completely at room temperature.

Step 9

Store in a cool, dark place for up to a year. Once opened, refrigerate and consume within a month.
