Ingredients

  • 1 cup Dried hibiscus flowers
  • 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 4 cups Water
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice (optional)
  • 1 cup Ice cubes (for cold version)

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the dried hibiscus flowers under cold water to remove any dust or impurities.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over medium heat.

Step 3

Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed hibiscus flowers and reduce the heat to low. Let the flowers steep for 10 minutes, ensuring the water turns a deep red color.

Step 4

After steeping, strain the hibiscus tea through a fine-mesh sieve into a heat-resistant pitcher or bowl to remove the flowers.

Step 5

While the tea is still hot, stir in the granulated sugar until fully dissolved. Taste and adjust the sweetness as desired.

Step 6

For a brighter flavor, stir in the optional lemon juice at this stage.

Step 7

If serving hot, pour the tea into cups and serve immediately.

Step 8

For the cold version, allow the tea to cool to room temperature, then transfer it to the refrigerator to chill for about 1 hour. Serve over ice cubes in tall glasses.
