Ingredients

  • 1 medium head Green cabbage
  • 2 large Carrot
  • 1 medium Red bell pepper
  • 1 small Onion
  • 0.5 cup White vinegar
  • 0.33 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 0.5 cup Water

Directions

Step 1

Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage, then cut it in half and remove the core. Shred the cabbage finely using a sharp knife, mandoline, or food processor.

Step 2

Peel and grate the carrots using a box grater or food processor. Set aside.

Step 3

Slice the red bell pepper into thin strips, and finely chop the onion.

Step 4

In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, grated carrots, sliced red bell pepper, and chopped onion.

Step 5

In a separate bowl or measuring jug, whisk together the white vinegar, granulated sugar, salt, black pepper, paprika, and water to create the dressing.

Step 6

Pour the dressing over the vegetable mixture in the large bowl and toss thoroughly to coat all the ingredients evenly.

Step 7

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the cabbage to soften slightly.

Step 8

Before serving, toss the coleslaw once more and taste for seasoning adjustments, adding more salt or vinegar if needed.

Step 9

Serve chilled as a side dish with your favorite Hungarian or comfort food meal.
