Ingredients

  • 1 cup (softened) Unsalted butter
  • 0.75 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup Light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 pieces Large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Pure vanilla extract
  • 2.25 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cups Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 0.5 cup Optional: chopped nuts (e.g., walnuts or pecans)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes using a hand or stand mixer.

Step 3

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the vanilla extract.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.

Step 5

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 6

Fold in the chocolate chips and, if desired, the chopped nuts.

Step 7

Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers still look slightly underbaked. (They will continue to set as they cool.)

Step 9

Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

Serve with a cold glass of milk and enjoy!
