Ingredients

  • 8 cups cornbread
  • 4 cups stale white bread
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 3 None celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 1 cup butter, unsalted
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 3 None eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 teaspoons sage, dried
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, freshly chopped
  • 1 as needed cooking spray

Directions

Step 1

Prepare your cornbread in advance and crumble it into a large mixing bowl. Tear the stale white bread into small pieces and add it to the bowl with the cornbread.

Step 2

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and celery and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Step 3

Grease the crockpot with cooking spray to prevent sticking.

Step 4

Combine the cornbread and bread mixture with the sautéed onions and celery in the mixing bowl. Stir well to evenly distribute the ingredients.

Step 5

In a separate bowl, whisk together the chicken broth, beaten eggs, sage, poultry seasoning, salt, and pepper until well combined.

Step 6

Pour the liquid mixture over the bread mixture and gently stir to fully combine. Ensure the mixture is moist but not overly soupy. If the mixture seems dry, add more chicken broth, 1/4 cup at a time.

Step 7

Fold in the freshly chopped parsley for added flavor.

Step 8

Transfer the dressing mixture to the prepared crockpot and spread it out evenly.

Step 9

Cover the crockpot with its lid and cook on LOW heat for 4 hours. Check occasionally to ensure the dressing doesn’t dry out, adding a little more broth if necessary.

Step 10

Serve warm directly from the crockpot or transfer to a serving dish. Garnish with extra parsley if desired. Enjoy!
