Ingredients

  • 300 g Extra-lean ground turkey (or chicken)
  • 50 g Fresh basil leaves
  • 3 pieces Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 piece Red chili, finely sliced (optional, for spice)
  • 2 tbsp Low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Oyster sauce (low-sodium if available)
  • 1 tsp Fish sauce (optional, low-sodium if available)
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil (or avocado oil)
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted vegetable stock
  • 2 cups Brown or red rice (cooked, for serving)

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large non-stick skillet or wok over medium heat and add the olive oil.

Step 2

Once the oil is hot, add the minced garlic and sliced chili (if using), and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 3

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the extra-lean ground turkey. Break it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks, stirring frequently until the meat is fully cooked and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 4

In a small bowl, mix the low-sodium soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce (if using), and the unsalted vegetable stock. Pour this mixture over the cooked meat and stir well to coat evenly.

Step 5

Add the fresh basil leaves to the skillet and stir for 1-2 minutes, just until the leaves wilt and release their aroma.

Step 6

Remove the skillet from heat and serve the stir-fried minced meat over a bed of cooked brown or red rice for a heart-healthy meal.
